Privacy Policy
Last updated October 9, 2026
HomeLog is a renovation journal for iPhone. It is built to keep your data on your device. This policy explains what the app and this website do with your information.
The short version
- The HomeLog app does not collect any data. It has no account, no analytics, no ads, and no tracking.
- The app does not send your photos, receipts, or costs to us or to anyone else. Site address lookups go to Apple's geocoding service (details below).
- Your data leaves your iPhone only when you choose to export or share it.
Data stored on your iPhone
Projects, rooms, notes, expenses, and the photos you import are stored inside HomeLog's private storage on your iPhone. Imported photos are copied into HomeLog so your journal keeps working if you later clean up your photo library. HomeLog also stores small image "feature prints" it computes on your device to recognise similar photos.
Like other app data, this information is included in your iPhone backups (iCloud Backup or a computer backup) if you have backups turned on. Those backups are handled by Apple under your Apple Account, not by us. Deleting a project removes it from HomeLog, and deleting the app removes all of its data from your iPhone.
Permissions the app asks for
- Photos. Used to add renovation photos to rooms and, when you tap Find Photos, to look for photos taken near your project's site. Matching and similarity checks run entirely on your iPhone. You can choose "Limit Access" to share only selected photos.
- Location (while using the app). Used only when you set your project's site to your current location. The site coordinates are saved with your project on your iPhone.
When you set a site, HomeLog uses Apple's geocoding service to turn an address you type into coordinates, or your current location into a readable address. That lookup is handled by Apple under Apple's privacy policy; we never receive it. If your photos are stored in iCloud Photos, iOS may also download a full-size copy from your own iCloud account when you import a photo.
Receipt scanning uses Apple's on-device text recognition. Receipt images and the text read from them stay on your iPhone.
Exports and sharing
When you export a report, expense ledger, data file, or recap video, HomeLog hands it to the iOS share sheet. Where it goes next (Messages, Mail, Files, and so on) is up to you, and that service's own privacy policy applies.
This website
- If you join the beta waitlist, we receive the email address you enter (and, if you pick one, your renovation stage). We use it only to send TestFlight invitations and launch news, and we never sell it. Signups are stored by our form provider on our behalf. Ask us anytime to delete your email.
- This site loads fonts from Google Fonts, so Google receives your IP address when the page loads.
- This site does not use analytics or advertising cookies.
Children
HomeLog is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If a future version of the app adds a feature that sends data off your device (such as optional sync), we'll describe it here and in the app before it ships.
